It is great to be back to tonala in the state of jalisco, it must be the largest pottery town in the Americas anyway, pots and clay accys piled up everywhere ready for painting, shiping or whatever..
We have been buying here since the begining of the company in 1976 and back then it was a tiny little place where horses seemed to outnumber people, we slept on supplyers floors as the trip to Guadalajara seemed to take forever. Now it is booming, the central bus station is nearby and cowpastures of past are full of new homes for the mexican masses. The people here have prospered with sales to all parts of the world, Unicas has done our part with countless tons of pottery purchased over the last 30 years.
Bittersweet for me as now several friends have just died and now with the global slowdown a lot of small businesses have closed and a lot of supplyers are fishing for flies as they say..
I am having a good trip, it is nice to be like family here and everyone is glad to see the brave soul buying in the face of adversity.
Our shop in Ridgway will have a great new selection of planters, chimeneas, sun faces, glassware and the like all handmade here all due to arrive in mid april...
So if you need to cheer up the home or garden please come to Ridgway with a bag of dirt and spring flowers, great preices and a huge selection..!
Sorry but we cant ship the pottery but it fits well in most any vehicle.
